Facile win for Premier 5 team.

Trim had a facile, but welcome, win in their latest Premier Division 5 league away match against an understrength and depleted Simonstown team on Sunday 28th April. The match had to be played as a 13 a-side as Simonstown could only muster the minimum number of players.

As a result, Trim ran out easy winners as their opponents could not match the speed, accuracy and power of the Trim lads. Trim showed their intent from the throw in with a number of fast-moving attacks in the opening few minutes which yielded a total of 2 -2 in the opening ten minutes.

The only reply from Simonstown was a tenth minute point from a free which interrupted the Trim flow but it quickly resumed with a further 1-1 in the next five minutes. The remainder of the match was virtually one-way traffic although Simonstown tried their best they were completely overwhelmed.

While one should not get carried away with the size or nature of the win there were many features of Trim’s play that give great hope for the future in the league and later in the championship.

Neily Heffernan operated very effectively at full forward and was rewarded with a hat trick of top-class goals. Every forward, at all levels in Trim football including senior, should learn from his very effective goal scoring method, hitting the ball low and hard to the back of the net.

A feature of the match was the brilliant goal stopping Eoin O’Reilly. While he hadn’t a busy day between the posts when he was called on he responded to the challenge magnificently, saving at least two certain goals. His kick outs and distribution were also spot on.

Another positive from the match was the way all the younger players responded to the challenge putting in impressive performances throughout the field.

Others to catch the eye for their hard work and constant running on and off the ball were Aonghus Short, Patrick Quigley and Brian Bolger.
